Hangover
Last weekend I went on my annual girlfriends' birthday weekend. It wasn't a big birthday year, not 21 or 40, but I was still reasonably sure I would imbibe at least a couple of drinks. As it turns out, my first afternoon included a lemon drop martini, a pint of Guinness and a strange cocktail called Rosemary's Baby. The main ingredient for the latter is apricot brandy, rimmed with salt and black pepper. It wasn't bad, though it was "interesting." My friend M insisted it was like drinking Halloween. After taking another sip, I concurred with her. It was as if a Yankee Candle had been melted into the glass, in a good way. Now if that mix of drinks doesn't make you sick just thinking about it, add this to the mix. My food intake for the day included a hummus wrap, creme brulee flavored gelato, and blackened rainbow trout. What?? Thankfully it was all spaced out, and yes, it was tasty at the time! I did have the forethought to pack Alka Seltzer, but didn't need to use it. My prep work also involved googling hangover cures, and here is where I made the greatest discovery. Did you know that the Vitaminwater called Revive (the fruit punch one) is actually a good hangover cure? If you read the packaging, there is a blurb on the side that starts "HEY!! HOW'S IT GOIN? IS THIS TOO LOUD FOR YOU?? OH SORry!" It's hysterical. Apparently the b vitamins, potassium and fruit juice help replace all the junk that got sucked out of your body when you drank too much. To test the theory, I had a few sips before I Nestea-plunged into my bed that night, then drank more every time I woke up. I felt great in the morning. Granted, this wasn't my biggest birthday blowout. A weekend in Vegas might require a case of these puppies. :)
