Art and Music
I have been doing art for faires and for fun for the last seven or eight years. This year things tapered off, partly because of the slowing economy, and partly because of a creative block on my part. When a friend asked me to participate in an open house, I agreed to make some stuff to sell as a favor to her. What really happened is that by picking up the paintbrush again, I found my mojo. Now, all of a sudden and to my surprise, I find my services are in demand. Not everyone can afford art for their walls, but they are still willing to hire someone to teach their kids skills that are no longer part of the school curriculum. So I find myself daydreaming about lessons. Here is one of my ideas. Give your student several pieces of drawing paper, some pencils, pastels, markers, etc. Let them listen to these pieces of music and just create whatever comes to mind, whether that is a specific scene or something more abstract. Feel the music. Let the emotions shape the art. Don't think too hard about it. Draw what you feel. Start each song with a new page. Alternatively, listen to all the music first. Pick a song that speaks to you, and then create your picture. Go!
